Update: Week 4

We skipped weighing in for our contest last week. Neither L or I had great weeks, and I forgot to call her to find out how hers ended up. I gained three and a half pounds between the last day of my detox and my weekly check in. This week, three pounds came off! I suspect that there were several factors involved in the gain.

1. I love carbs. In fact, I have probably trained my body to love them too much. So when I added carbs back into my diet, my body went completely batty and stored every carb it could get before it realized it didn't need to do that and started acting normally.

2. I didn't exercise at all. You're not supposed to in the detox week, because of the lack of carbs. But I never restarted. This week, I've been running at least twice.

3. It's just a bad week to be a girl who's trying to lose weight. If you know what I mean.

So, I had three strikes against me. This week, all three seem to have resolved themselves. If I can keep up with the good habits and stay away from the bad, I should have another great week! Especially with the running. I'm pleased to report that it's not actually going as badly as I anticipated that it would. It's been like six months since I've actually really run. I'm re-starting the Couch to 5k plan, and it seems to be going alright. My pace is already MUCH faster than it's ever been, and I really think that eating the right foods (which I was doing before) in the right combinations (which, apparently, I was NOT doing before) has helped fuel my body the right way. I've got more energy when I work out, and it's showing in my pace. Last night, I did a 15 minute mile, which is much faster than most of my previous times :-)

So far, it's been a great week, and I'm looking forward to another one! There's a lot to be happy about right now.... good health and weight loss is one, and starting a new job is another. That's right, I've FINALLY landed a new job that I am super excited about, and I feel that I would be a great fit with the staff! I can't wait to start at the end of August. I ended up have to choose between my two flute lesson campuses, though. I ended up choosing the one where the students are passionate, rather than the one where I make the most money. Now I just have to tell the other school. It's kind of sad... I enjoy teaching at both schools, but with the new job, I have only one day left over for lessons. Oh well. This is still a good scenario for me and for my family, and I'm so excited!
