Triathlon Madness

So last night I began some short training for my triathlon in June. Allison and I rode two miles on the bikes (told you it was short). It's just been so long since I've been on a bicycle. Even though it felt I was going fast, I knew that I wasn't, and by the time I got off the bike after only two miles on the road (not even off-road yet) my legs were wobbly like jello! I seriously thought that I was going to have problems walking into the house. And I'm supposed to be able to run two miles after a seven mile off-road trail ride???? Ain't gonna happen, folks! At least not right now. But I have until June, and I'm hoping that I can adjust to the bike fairly quickly so that I can start building speed.

It looks like the triathlon is really going to happen. I'm excited! Katelyn is so in on it. We're going shopping for bathing suits on Friday. Kind of a weird thing to do at Christmas time, but we both need sport suits. A recreational suit will not cut it for racing purposes. My tankini will drag me down in the water and her bikini will probably just fall off when she starts swimming fast. I also need to get a swim cap. I found a pool in Irving literally five minutes from where I work. Admission is only $1.50 and I have a three hour lunch break on Thursdays. I can definitely fit in a swim there. My hope is that if I get there right at 11:00 when they open, I can swim for 30-45 minutes and it won't be too busy. If I have a swim cap, my hair should stay dry so I can just hop out of the pool, change clothes, grab lunch, and still have an hour or so to work on homework before I have to teach again. We also found an indoor pool in Plano, so I'll be able to swim with Allison and Katelyn, too. Admission there is only $2.00. Hooray! Most of the other indoor pools around require membership and are expensive, so I'm really happy to have found these two places.

Keep in mind that I'm also working toward a 15k to come at the end of January. Lindsey is making my training plan. I think that once I reach my 15k goal, endurance should come much easier. It's not terrible now, but it does need to be better, especially on the bike, and I'll find out about swimming next week. I've never been a strong swimmer, but I only have to be able to do 150 yards. We shall see.

On my plate today is a two mile run this evening, preceeded by the express fat burning workout. I have to keep up the good work! Last night, as I was bending over the entertainment center with my head through the hole in the back attempting to plug some stuff in, Charlie remarked that he thought my butt looked smaller. Plus, I lost two pounds over Thanksgiving. No idea how that happened! I really should have gained a little, but I'll take the loss! Anyway, my point is that if I keep doing what I'm doing and maybe step up my game a little, I should get results fairly quickly, although I'm going to try not to get my hopes up for that too much. I hate to get excited about things only to be let down later. So if I work hard and tell myself not to expect huge results, I'll just be that much happier when I finally get them :-)
