Wow! A lot has happened this week since I last posted. The short version is that I'm running a 5k on Thanksgiving day, I began workouts with my P90 dvd's and I let L convince me to run a 15k race in January. She thinks I can do it, and what's funnier is that our waitress at dinner tonight says that she was a former personal trainer. When I told her where I was at now, she said that a 15k is totally doable. Well, crap! Now I have to do it :-)
Let's talk about P90. I said that I would make a post every day that I worked out on the program just so that I can have a log and be accountable for what I did (or didn't do) that day.
Today I used the express fat-burning workout. This dvd is like a preparation for the P90 dvds. It's designed to help your body learn to go after the fat in your body. The idea is that you work out hard with a lot of different exercises and follow a low-carb eating plan for the first week. So I guess you could say that I'm in the pre-90 stage on day 1. And HOLY COW! This guy totally kicked my ass! I have no idea how I'm going to be able to run my two miles in the morning. But I'm going to have to do it. If I don't, then I probably won't stand a chance in the Turkey Trot on Thursday. But anyway....
I really like the way that the dvd is set up. Tony Horton is the guy leading the workout, and I must say that he's pretty motivational. The workout is also broken down into a warm-up, a cool-down, and 5 rounds that are repeated once each. The whole thing takes about 40 minutes to complete, but each round is only like 3 or 4 minutes. There's a countdown timer on the screen that tells you how much time is left for the total workout and one that tells you how much time is left in your round. I really like being able to work toward the shorter goals because it keeps me from being discouraged. It's much easier to push harder when you have two minutes left as opposed to knowing that you have 38 to go. And I still sweated and worked hard. I even got muscle cramps from all the squatting! I think it'll kick my butt this week, but I'm ready for it. Bring it on!!
